Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the group.
